SUMMARY
A genus of ancillariids with three living representatives, distributed in the tropical waters of northern South America (Tropical Atlantic realm, Tropical Northwestern Atlantic province, North Brazil Shelf province) and the warm temperate waters of Brazil (Temperate South America realm, Warm Temperate Southwestern Atlantic province).
This genus-group taxon has been used as a container taxon for the majority of the large ancillariids.
Type species is Ancillaria tankervillii Swainson, 1825, a large species mainly from tropical waters of Venezuela (see below).
