Porphyria dealbata Röding, 1798

For Petuch & Sargent (1986), this was a junior synonym of Voluta oliva Linnaeus, 1758. Tursch, Duchamps & Greifeneder (1994) considered this taxon to be a nomen dubium. We hereby concur with this opinion, although, judging the type figure, it may well be an Americoliva

The taxon was considered to be a senior homonym of Oliva dealbata Reeve, 1850, but that taxon is assignable to Olivella whereas the taxon under discussion is assignable to Oliva s.l.. The two therefore neither are primary nor secondary homonyms.
