Superfamily: OlivoideaUnranked: Nomina Nudae
SUMMARY
No formal description. Mentioned in a list of species, without reference to a figure. Nomen nudum. Eocene. South Carolina, USA.
Previously stated here: "As stated by Palmer (1937: 436), this taxon, listed as a fossil from the Miocene [= Pliocene] of North Carolina, is a nomen nudum. Dactylus carolinensis Conrad, 1862, a Miocene species which belongs to Oliva, therefore is a junior secondary homonym.".
But Lee (2016, in litt.) stated: This is an available name despite interpretations of Palmer (1937: 436 < http://biodiversitylibrary.org/page/30413517>: "Nomina nuda: Olivia [error pro Oliva] carolinensis Conrad, 1842, Nat. Inst. Proc., 2d Bull. p. 174, footnote, from Eocene of South Carolina. It is not Dactylus carolinensis Conrad (= Oliva), 1862, Acad. Nat. Sci. Phil., Proc. vol. XIV, p. 584 from the Miocene."), e.g., < http://www.olivirv.myspecies.info/en/taxonomy/term/1250/descriptions >. A nomen nudum is not an available name and therefore cannot be a homonym of any available name.
