SUMMARY
Distribution: Temperate Northern Pacific realm. Warm temperate Northwest Pacific province (Sagami Bay to Kyushu). Pliocene of Japan.
In 200-350 m (Okutani, 2000). Most extant specimens investigated here originate from Mikawa Bay (Mikawa-wan), southern Honshu, Japan, from depths of 36 to 100 m.
The species is superficially similar to Baryspira otohime (Majima, Tsuchida & Ohshima, 1993), which occurs in the same region. That species, however, has a smaller operculum with central nucleus, compared to the larger (filling the aperture) operculum with a terminal nucleus of the species under discussion.
Baryspira albocallosa (Lischke, 1874) also occurs in the same region, with many records from Mikawa Bay as well. That species, however, grows much larger and the shell is much wider compared to its length. It also has s smaller operculum, with sub-central nucleus.
