SUMMARY
Distribution: Miocene. Miocene of the Loire Basin, France. Miocene of the Aquitaine Basin, France. Miocene of the Western/Central Paratethys (Italy. Slovak Republic. Poland. Romania. Austria.. Bulgaria). Also Algeria. Pliocene. Canary Island (Meco, 1981; Lozano, 2012).
RV 7029. Poland, Korytnica [Badenian (Langhian-Serravalian)]. Scale bar is 1 cm.
Chavan & Fischer (1939) suggested that this species may be the descendant of the Upper Oligocene Volutithes anomalus Schlotheim, 1820. As a matter of fact, that taxon is often be considered to be a chrono-subspecies of the taxon under discussion. It is here considered to be the precursor of the species under discussion.
