SUMMARY
Distribution: Tropical Eastern Pacific realm. Tropical East Pacific province. From the Marias Islands, Mexico, to Ecuador (Sterba, 2004: 102).
This is the type species of Vullietoliva Petuch & Berschauer, 2017. Most specimens in collectios originate from Panama where it apparently has become progressively uncommon.
Shells of large specimens reach a length of over 50 mm.
RV 0915a. Panama, Pedo Gonzalez Island. Scale bar is 1 cm.
The colour pattern of this species is similar to that of Oliva foxi Stingley, 1984, which is found mainly at Cocos Island, Ecuador. That species, however, remains smaller, has a more elevated spire and is less cylindrical in shape.
Furthermore, the species displays the tent-like markings found also in Voluta porphyria Linnaeus, 1758, which is the type species of Porphyria Röding, 1798.
