Distribution: Central Indo-Pacific realm. Western Coral Triangle province. Eastern Philippines ecoregion (Philippines). Sunda Shelf province (NE Java, Indonesia). Also Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, depths down to 50 m (Sterba, 2004).
This species is better known as Oliva dubia Schepman, 1903, which is a junior primary homonym of Oliva dubia Lea, 1833.

Replacement name for Oliva dubia Schepman, 1903, not Oliva dubia Lea, 1833. Although this issue was ignored by subsequent authors, Schepman's name is a junior primary homonym indeed and Petuch & Sargent's replacement name therefore fully justified.
This was a junior synonym of Oliva dubia Schepman, 1903, for Sterba (2004).
"Shell small, cylindrically oblong, slightly narrowed towards the base, very glossy, smooth, yellowish-brown, with more or less waved rufous lines and on the last whorl a series of distant brown blotches, bordering the suture. Spire rather high, convexly conical, with a very blunt rosy apex. Whorls 5½, the embryonic ones convex, the lower ones nearly flat, slightly callous. Sutures deep, widely channelled. Aperture oblong, rather blunt at the upper part, gradually widening below, with a large channel above, interior violet, outer margin nearly straight, moderately thickened, basal sinus wide. Columellar lip smooth above, with about 7 plaits towards the base. Alt. 13, Lat. 4 2/3; Apert. alt. 10½, Lat. 1½ Mill.". Recent. No type locality selected. Illustrated later by Schepman (1911: Pl. 22 fig. 2a-b).
This was a valid species for Sterba (2004).
