SUMMARY
This is the type species of Americoliva and a very well known intertidal to shallow sub-tidal species in the southeastern USA. It is the only Americoliva penetrating the Warm Temperate Northwestern Atlantic province, being distributed on the northern shores of the Gulf of Mexico and along the coastline of the eastern USA from Florida in the south, north to South Carolina.
At present three subspecies (two geographic, one bathymetric) are recognised:
