Oliva ionopsis
"Shell rather small for the genus, narrowly ovate, widest at the shoulder, tapering rapidly above, more gently and with a little convexity below; protoconch roundly mammillate, comprising ca. 2j4 whorls; later whorls ca. 4, their suture narrowly yet deeply channeled within a sharp rim. Aperture rather narrow, widest toward base; canal deeply cut but open and short; columella retreating at base; siphonal fasciole with 3 low plaits which pass inward over the columella, these in addition to the more distant bounding cord, sometimes an incipient basal plait, and ca. 3 very short plaits above, while beyond the bounding cord 3 or 4 gradually fading traces of short plaits occur on the columella. Color of shell Ivory Yellow, varyingly speckled and chevroned with dark brown, and with a few brown flames alternating with spots of white below the suture; siphonal fasciole a solid and conspicuous Army Brown; extreme internal margin of labium narrowly bordered with Ivory Yellow and then a little more widely with dark brown; outer wall of apertural chamber a beautiful bluish violet, paler outwardly but deeper above the canal; tip of columella and interior edge of canal white; traces of 2 diffuse and often obscure brown bands encircle the body-whorl. Alt. of holotype 30.4, max. diam. 13.5, alt. aperture 24.8, max. diam. aperture 3.3 mm." Recent. Bahia de Las Palmas, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
