SUMMARY
Distribution: Tropical Atlantic realm. West African Transitional province (Senegal and The Gambia) Gulf of Guinea province (From southern Senegal to Angola). Pleistocene. Senegal, Angola.
RV 5173b. Living immature animal with proboscis extended (note bright orange tip). Sonome, Thies Region, Senegal. Such immature specimens have been named Oliva cauta Marrat, 1871.
RV 2109a. Angola, S of Luanda, Mussulo Bay. At low tide in sand. depth 1 m. November 1982. Scale bar is 1 cm.
Shells of specimens from São Tomé and Príncipe remain smaller and are usually darker pigmented (see figure below).

A variety with pale flesh-coloured shells has been named Oliva subulata var. pallida E.A. Smith, 1871 (see figure below). Apart from being a junior primary homonym, the variety has no further status.
