"O. cruentata, Sol.; maculata, Duclos; guttata, Lamk.;aurata, Link, amethystina, Bolten. — Subfusiformis, crassa, albida, maculis angularibus varie picta; spira pyramidata, anfractibus planulatis, fasciculis linearum fuscarum marginatis, balteo purpureo maculato vel flammulato; columella distanter et valide plicata, callo antico solido, plicis tribus aut quatuor distinctis rugato; apertura intus subaurea; labio crasso, extus abraso. The spots are all angular, whatever their size and however disposed. The columella plaits are unequal, sometimes duplicated.". Recent. No specific localities given for the specimens figured. "Shell oblong-cylindrical, spire generally acuminated, sometimes annulated above the middle, sharp at the apex, columellar plaits numerous, somewhat irregular, duplicate, pale brownish cream-colour or ruddy, marked throughout with obscure violet-purple spots, which are deep violet-purple round the base and at the sutures, sometimes mottled or reticulated with purple-flesh color.". "O. Cylindraceo-ventricosa, albida; maculîs fusco violaceis, sparsis; spira acuta; ore aurantio. C'est encore ici une espèce toujours facile à distinguer des autres, Sur un fond blanchâtre; elle offre une multitude de taches ou gouttelettes d'un brun rougeâtre ou violet, inégales et éparses. Ces taches, d'un violet plus foncé sur le bord supérieur de chaque tour de spire, font pâroître ces bords comme crénelés. L'ouverture de la coquille montre un intérieur jaunâtre ou d'un orangé pâle. Cette coquille n'est point rare; sa longueur est de 48 millimètres.".
