Olivancillaria
"Animal volumineux, pouvant envelopper toute la coquille. Pied large, arrondi en arrière; bouclier très-large, à lobes obtus, arrondis sur les côtés; tête recouverte par les lobes du pied; le manteau donne naissance en arrière à un lobe large, pouvant embrasser jusqu'à l'extrémité de la spire; point d'opercule. Coquille sans canal sur la spire, au-delà du dernier tour, tout le reste étant encroûté constamment par le dépôt que laisse le lobe du manteau. Le nom que nous avons donné à cette division rappelle à la fois le double rapport qu'ont ces coquilles avec les Olives canaliculées sur la spire et les Ancillaires, qui ne le sont pas du tout.".
Type species by subsequent designation (Marcus & Marcus, 1959): Porphyria urceus Röding, 1798. Marcus & Marcus named Oliva brasiliensis Chemnitz, 1788, as type species of the genus-group taxon, which is an unavailable taxon on which Porphyria urceus was based.
A genus recognised from the warm temperate and cold temperate waters of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Fossil species are recognised from the Miocene of Brazil and Argentina.
The type species is Porphyria urceus Röding, 1798.
