General description:

A mainly Australian species, distributed from Albany, Western Australia, around the north coast to north Queensland (Central Indo-Pacific realm. Sahul Shelf province, Northeast Australian Shelf province, Northwest Australian Shelf province), but also found in southern Papua New Guinea.

"A testa oblonga, pallida, tenui, sutura distincta, anfractibus ventricosis, superioribus rufo-fuscis, infra carinulatis, omnibus superne albo-cingulatis: anfractu ultimo balteis duobus basilaribus Iaevibus, superiore rufo-fusco; varice columellari tenui, albo, angusto, glaberrimo; long. 2 2/10, lat. 1, poll. Shell oblong, pale brown, thin, suture distinct; volutions ventricose, upper ones reddish brown, with a very small keel at the lower edge, and a rather broad white belt at the upper margin; last volution with two smooth belts at the base, of which the upper one is reddish brown: a depression separates the lower one from the columellar varix, which is narrow, thin, white, and very smooth. A very remarkable species; of which I have received a single specimen from China; it is a thin and delicate shell: my specimen is imperfect, having lost the apex of the spire, and part of the edge of the outer lip: the reddish brown colour of the upper volutions terminates rather abruptly a little beyond the commencement of the last. Before this was sent to press, two other specimens have occurred, which shew that the apex of the spire is obtuse and mammillary.". Recent. Oceano Sinensi.

Original description(s):

"Shell ovate, rather elongate, imperforate, purplish brown, spirally and concentrically but indistinctly striated, thin, smooth, very minute. Spire conical, rather shorter than the length of the last whorl, blunt at the tip. Whorls slightly rounded, pale in front, last with a broad bright orange brown band in front. The anterior enamel band, single, narrow, dark orange brown, about half as broad as the brown band, the front half pure white, the hinder or sutural enamel band, narrower than the front one, pure opaque white. Pillar much curved without any plaits. Mouth ovate, twice as long as wide; outer lip (toothless ?) throat brown.". Recent. Cape York, Australia.
