Utriculina java
This is not Oliva nebulosa Lamarck, 1822, under which name it was recognized and figured previously (Voskuil, 1990; Sterba, 2004). That taxon, however, represents juvenile Utriculina gibbosa (Born, 1778).
Doubtful record: Jay (web article) lists and illustrates a specimen from Réunion (stated to be the single one ever found there), which does not belong to this species but probably is a subadult specimen of Voluta gibbosa Born, 1778. A specimen from Réunion or Mauritius, as depicted by Drivas & Jay (1988), involves the species under discussion, but probably originates from an other locality, being extremely similar to specimens from Java, Indonesia.
It is a medium sized species, most closely resembling the possibly partly syntopic Utriculina lutaria (Röding, 1798), presumably with three separated areas of distribution. However, the species is still poorly documented and possibly also occurs at intermediate localities.
