Type species by original designation: Olivella (Janaoliva) amoni Sterba & Lorenz, 2005.
Sterba & Lorenz (2005) introduced Janaoliva as a subgenus of Olivella Swainson, 1831. As can be concluded from the descriptions and figures, O. amoni at first glance seems extremely similar to Olivella simplex Pease, 1867. As a consequence, Janaoliva was considered to be a junior synonym of Belloliva Iredale, by the present author [RV].
Recently Jean Claude Martin stated [slightly corrected]: "I think that Belloliva simplex and Belloliva amoni are two distinct species. ... I collected over one hundred of B. amoni by hand dredging. The two shells have different shapes and, above all, B. amoni has a conspicuous labial tooth at the end of the ancillid groove which I never observed on images or in specimens of B. simplex.".
