Oliva acuminata Lamarck, 1811, is the type species, by subsequent designation (Cossmann, 1899), of Anazola Gray, 1858.
One of the type figures of this species, Martini, 1773: Pl. 50 fig. 553, is also a type figure of Porphyria lutaria Röding, 1798, and involves that Central Indo-Pacific species rather than the West African species under discussion.
Cossmann's (1903) Asian Pliocene record certainly does not involve the current species but is any of the other Pliocene Anazola recorded from that region.
