Oliva modesta
Original description(s):
"Shell cylindrically oblong, acuminated at the apex, columella straight, many-plaited; whitish, promiscuously rather obscurely blotched and dotted with brown.". Recent. No locality given.
Taxonomy:
After its introduction by Reeve, the taxon was mentioned without comments by Ducros de St. Germain (1857: 110). Weinkauff (1878: 131) proposed to synonymise this taxon with Oliva acuminata Lamarck, 1811. Reeve's figures, however, are a very close match to specimens from Boavista, Cabo Verde (RV 2635a-b) and the taxon therefor may be a senior synonym of Olivancillaria acuminata boavistensis. Its definite synonymisation awaits investigation of the type material.
