SUMMARY
A taxon described from and considered to be valid endemic of Bermuda (Tropical Atlantic realm. Tropical Northwestern Atlantic province) by Petuch & Sargent (1986: 140, Pl. 25 figs. 15-16).
However, species occurring at Bermuda are Americoliva reticularis (Lamarck, 1811) (Petuch & Sargent's figures), which is very common at the Bahamas, and Oliva bifasciata jenseni Petuch & Sargent, 1986, The latter can hardly be confused as it grows larger, has a more cylindric shape and different ornamentation.
The type illustrations, however, seem te represent at least two distinct species. Careful investigation of the syntypes of the taxon at the Liverpool Museum reveals the identity of the taxon: all are reticularis. Figures 46 and 46 represent a slender specimens, figures 51 and 53 represent two stocky specimens and figure 52 represents a monstruosity.
"Aspinwall", althought included in the collecting locality of the taxon, seems to be the name of the collector, instead of a geographic entity.
Type figures.
