SUMMARY
Distribution: Western Indo-Pacific realm. Western Indian Ocean province (Mozambique, Kenya, Zanzibar, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mayotte). Records from Rameshwaram, India (West and South Indian Shelf province, RV 5536) and the Andaman Islands (Andaman province, RV 0779) need confirmation.
This is a valid species for all contemporary authors. It most closely resembles the partly sympatric Carmione bulbosa (Röding, 1798), which, however, always has a prominent protuberance of the plication plate.
