Abstract: | New information on the pattern of Early Neogene asteroid impacts and interplanetary dust clouds appear to parallel extinction events seen in the eastern North American Transmarian Province. It is hypothesized that the extraterrestrial events of the Miocene were sufficiently severe to account for the three main pulses of extinction and speciation during this time. Gastropod faunal composition is used to test this theory. |
